The Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church met on Monday, June 24, 2019 in Birmingham, Alabama. After meeting with the respective Presiding Bishops and representatives from the Episcopal Districts, and a review of the circumstances, the Council of Bishops, in accordance with the 2016 Doctrine and Discipline of the AME Church, Part XI, Section III, F, 3, pg. 172, voted to remove Bishop Wilfred Messiah from assignment to the Seventeenth Episcopal District, and Bishop Paul Kawimbe from the Nineteenth Episcopal District, for the good of the church.

The Council of Bishops will meet with representatives from the Seventeenth and Nineteenth Episcopal Districts to afford them an opportunity to make a request to the Council of Bishops regarding the assignment.
