African Methodist Episcopal (AME) University has taken a bold step toward strengthening higher education in Liberia with the groundbreaking of a modern three-storey, 25-classroom annex to Hatcher Hall. The landmark project, scheduled for completion within eight months, is expected to significantly increase classroom capacity and improve the learning experience for the University’s rapidly growing student population of more than 7,000.

Speaking at the ceremony, Presiding Bishop Dr. Paul J. M. Kawimbe described the occasion as a defining moment, saying the project represents not only the construction of a new building but also an investment in human resource development and quality higher education.

University President, Rev. Dr. Alvin E. Attah affirmed that the expansion is a strategic response to increasing enrollment and reflects the institution’s commitment to providing a modern, accessible, and student-centered environment that prepares graduates to serve Liberia and the world.

The annex will feature 25 spacious classrooms, administrative offices, a student intellectual hall, landscaped recreational areas, commercial stalls, gender-sensitive restrooms, wheelchair-accessible ramps, and other modern amenities designed to promote inclusivity and academic excellence.

The development is being financed through a loan facility from the International Bank of Liberia (IBL). Representing the CEO, the Credit Manager, Mr. Kojo Weeks, said the bank is proud to partner with AME University, noting that “investment in education is an investment in Liberia’s future workforce.”

Board representatives, student leaders, and project engineers hailed the initiative as another milestone in the University’s infrastructure development agenda. Once completed, the facility is expected to enhance teaching capacity, improve student services, and reinforce AME University’s standing as one of Liberia’s leading institutions of higher learning.
