Mt Zion AME Church Celebrates Groundbreaking

The Mt. Zion AME Church family celebrated its groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, June 10, on the site of the previous church that was destroyed by fire on June 30, 2015. The ceremony was attended by Mt. Zion Church members and other members of the community.

The spirit of the Lord was surely present and a good time was had by all. The program consisted of the Salutation and Ascription of Praise by the Pastor Rev. John Taylor. The Hymn of Praise, Come we that Love the Lord, was outlined by the Rev. Ann Pearson, the pastor of Greater Jerusalem AME Church Lane. The Rev. Clifford Levine, pastor of Bethel AME Church in Gourdine, read the scripture lesson and the Rev. Harriet P. Massingill, pastor of New Beginning Christian Church of Lane performed the Prayer of Supplication. The Responsive Reading was done by the Rev. Jerry P. Edwards, pastor of New Hope Christian Church in Greeleyville. The keynote speaker was the Rev. Dr. Allen W. Parrott, presiding elder of the Kingstree District and president of the Presiding Elder’s Council of the 7th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Elder Parrott commended the Rev. John and Sister Deborah Taylor along with the members of Mt. Zion for their patience and fortitude in getting to this particular landmark in the journey to rebuild their new sanctuary. Elder Parrott briefly commented on the destruction of the church also by fire in 1995 and encouraged the congregation to hold fast to their faith in God who is able to supply all their needs.RE
