Zion AME Church in Delaware, Ohio, Receives New Pastor
The Rev. Morné E. Meyer, an itinerant elder from Cape Town, the Mother City of his beloved South Africa. He is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity degree at Payne Theological Seminary. This is a rare opportunity as African seminaries do not currently offer a Master’s degree accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
After faithfully pastoring churches in the Cape Annual Conference for 10 years and serving in many other capacities in the 15th Episcopal District, he bid farewell to his country. Although he is new to the United States, this vibrant preacher came through all the ranks of the AME Church. He will be the third minister from South Africa to serve as a pastor in the United States in 20years.
The Rev. Meyer received his appointment at the first Mid-Year session of the new bishop of the 3rd Episcopal District, Bishop Frank M. Reid, III. He will serve under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Betty W. Holley, the presiding elder for the Columbus/Springfield/Xenia District.
The Rev. Meyer will officially be welcomed to the community of Delaware, Ohio, on Sunday, May 19, 2019, when the Rev. Dr. Michael J. Brown, the president of Payne Theological Seminary will be the preacher.
