The Bryant African Methodist Episcopal Church in Côte d’Ivoire, within the 14th Episcopal District, has received a significant lifeline as its restoration efforts begin following months of closure due to severe weather damage.
Named in honor of retired Bishop John R. Bryant, the church holds a cherished place in the life and witness of the African Methodist Episcopal Church throughout the region. During the recently concluded Côte d’Ivoire Annual Conference, it was reported that the church had remained closed from May through October 2025 after heavy rains severely compromised the building’s structure.
This prolonged closure led a considerable number of members to temporarily join neighboring congregations, raising urgent concerns about both the physical condition of the building and the continuity of fellowship within the community.
In response to this urgent need, the Reverend. Dr. Alvin E. Attah stepped forward with a remarkable act of generosity. He first expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Presiding Prelate, Bishop Paul. J M. Kawimbe for the opportunity to visit and minister to the people of Côte d’Ivoire, and then announced a generous donation to cover 50% of the total rehabilitation cost. Dr. Attah made clear that his intervention was rooted in a deep commitment to the church’s mission and legacy, affirming the Church’s legacy and stating that Bishop Bryant’s legacy must be preserved and that no AME member should ever feel excluded or unreached because of natural circumstances beyond their control.
The planned rehabilitation will focus on structurally reinforcing the church building to better withstand future rainy seasons and ensuring that worship and fellowship continue uninterrupted for years to come.
The Conference extended its sincere and enthusiastic appreciation to the Reverend Dr. Alvin E. Attah for this timely and impactful contribution. His generosity stands as a powerful testament to servant leadership and a shared dedication to advancing the work of the AME Church work in in Côte d’Ivoire.
As restoration efforts move forward, members are encouraged to continue to uplift the rehabilitation initiative through prayer and partnership, with full confidence that Bryant AME Church will soon be restored as a vibrant and thriving center of worship and community life.
