Remembering the Prayer Bishop

Bishop Sarah Frances Davis was the 126th elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC).  Her historic election on July 6, 2004, made her only the third woman in the 218-year history of the AMEC denomination to ascend to its highest level of Episcopal service. Bishop Davis was affectionately known as the “Prayer Bishop” because of her stalwart emphasis on the importance of prayer in the life of the Church.

On November 9, 2013, the world and Christendom in particular, lost a valiant prayer warrior, champion of children, church builder and Episcopal leader. At the time of her death, Bishop Sarah was serving as the President of the Council of A.M.E. Bishops and the presiding prelate of the16th Episcopal District, comprised of churches and schools in South America; Windward Islands; the Caribbean Islands (Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Virgin Islands); and Europe (London, the Netherlands and France).

Bishop Sarah was on a mission to transform minds, empower lives and change the world. The Bishop Sarah Davis Foundation has been established to perpetuate her legacy of providing hope, healthcare, education and housing to orphans and other populations of vulnerable women and children domestically and internationally.

We pray that you will make HER mission, YOUR mission by helping to keep alive her legacy of building orphanages, schools and clinics; awarding scholarships, and developing future church leaders by giving generously to the Foundation’s general fund.
