Quinn Chapel Holds Prayer Breakfast
On Saturday, May 12, the Men of Quinn Chapel AME Church hosted a prayer breakfast in the fellowship hall of the church’s South Wabash location. The annual event is designed specifically for men and young men from the surrounding Chicago community to unite for a day of prayer.
This year was a tremendous success as there were approximately 125 men and boys in attendance. Throughout the day, men brought forth prayer requests, shared testimonies, and challenged each other to continue to do God’s work in the community. Serving as the special guest speaker was all-time Chicago Bear great, tight end, Desmond Clark.
Brother Clark shared his experience coming from a difficult childhood in an impoverished community in Lake City, Florida. He spoke of the tremendous role that teachers, coaches, and administrators played in addition to his family. He charged the men in the room to step up in the lives of children in the community. He challenged the young men to write out there goals and pursue them with a tenacious vigor.
Throughout his speech, Desmond was transparent with his testimony noting that his spiritual journey continues to be an up and down experience. He expressed the importance of staying in relationship to God through service to his community.
As Brother Clark now serves as a financial adviser with Mass Mutual in his primary vocation, he offered key insights to the men around basic financial planning and goal setting. Brother Clark made himself available after the program to any man or young man for pictures and questions.
