Celebrating Centenarian Muriel Walker of Sealy Memorial AME Church, Barbados

Muriel Walker turned 100 on October 8, 2024. She is an active member of Sealy Memorial AME Church in Barbados and credits her faith in God and her quest for inner peace with ensuring her longevity.

Dame Sandra Mason, the president of Barbados, visited her home in McClean’s Gap, Brittons Cross Road, St. Michael, to celebrate her birthday. She proudly showed the President the certificates of the various offices she has held in her beloved AME Church.

According to Presiding Elder Carlene Sobers of the Barbados-Grenada District of the Windward Islands Conference, Sister Walker has served as an evangelist and licensed missionary worker, frequently preaching at rallies across the island and leading the Missionary Sunday service at the local church for many years.

She is one of three family members to reach the 100-year mark. One of her aunts lived to 102, while another was said to have reached 113.

In an interview with a local paper, her niece Marcia Moseley commented, “Her memory is exceptional for her age, and she’s always for her son. ” She continued, “She made sure that he had a good education and always encouraged him.”
