The day after ICE agents murdered Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, MN, AME scholars, Rev. Dr. jennifer s. leath (4th District), Rev. Dr. Nikia Robert (1st District), and Rev. Dr. AnneMarie Mingo (11th District) protested with other Christian ethicists at the White House during the Annual Meeting of the Society for Christian Ethics (SCE) in Washington, D.C.
Inspired by Howard Thurman, “The Work of Christmas,” leath, Mingo, and Robert joined other SCE participants in calling for justice and an end to the inhumanity of United States policies of imperialism, violence, detainment and deportation of immigrants, and harmful policies targeting LGBTQ+ people, women, people of African descent, and all non-white people. With a banner quoting Martin Luther King Jr.’s reminder that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and Micah 6.8, participants kept vigil with candles and signs demanding civil and human rights.
Mingo, Associate Professor of Ethics, Culture, and Moral Leadership and Director of the Metro Urban Institute at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and leath, Associate Professor of Black Religion and Pastor of Tanner-Price AME Church are current members of the SCE Board of Directors; Robert, Assistant Professor of Religious Ethics and Social at University of Kansas and founder of Abolitionist Sanctuary, is a former board member
