“So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.” — Luke 5:7
The months of July and August 2025 will be remembered as a historic season in the life of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Kwashieman Beento, Accra. Within this short period, the congregation hosted global prayer services, welcomed distinguished bishops, engaged in ecumenical fellowship, and received generous support from the wider AME family. These events showcased the true spirit of connectionalism and reaffirmed the church’s role as a beacon of unity and Christian witness in Ghana.
A Global Prayer Gathering
The season opened with a global prayer service convened by Dr. Chinyere “See Love” Henning, daughter of the late Bishop Garnett Henning. Streamed live on Facebook under the theme “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions” (Ephesians 6:18), the service drew participants from Bethel, Hosanna, King Jesus AME, Vision AME, The Lord’s Church, and the National Apostolic Ministers and Ministries.
The atmosphere was charged with worship, led by Bethel’s Praise & Worship team. Apostle Dr. Michael Kankam of Good God Ministry delivered the sermon and led powerful intercessory prayers for the Church, nations, and families. Testimonies of healing, prophetic declarations, and a love feast sealed the day. Clergy and guests were also hosted to a fellowship meal at the parsonage, marking a true celebration of faith and connection.

The Visit of Dr. John Thomas, II, The Christian Recorder Editor
On August 3, 2025, Bethel welcomed Dr. John Thomas, editor of The Christian Recorder. After preaching a thought-provoking sermon and joining in Communion, Dr. Thomas held a dialogue with the clergy on the AME Church’s ties with other Methodist bodies. He was particularly impressed with the Rev. Michael Enu’s detailed account of the AME Church’s history in Ghana, a subject that also formed part of his academic research. Dr. Thomas pledged to share these insights with the wider AME connection.

Strengthening Ecumenical Bonds
The AME Church in Ghana continues to play an active role in the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG). This body unites 31 denominations, including the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Evangelical Presbyterian Churches. Through the CCG, the AME contributes to interfaith dialogue, HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and national advocacy.
This ecumenical spirit was also evident when the AME joined national prayers during Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations at Jubilee House. Such engagements affirm the church’s commitment to unity and its responsibility within the broader Christian family.

Bishop David Rhwynica Daniels Returns to Ghana
A major highlight came on August 10, 2025, with the visit of Bishop David Rhwynica Daniels, the 124th elected Bishop of the AME Church, accompanied by Supervisor Irene Moifoi Daniels. Their visit coincided with the World Methodist Council meeting in Accra.
At Bethel, Bishop Daniels expressed joy at witnessing the growth of the church and delivered a stirring sermon titled “Do Not Doubt God, But Only Trust in Him.” His emphatic declaration that “there is no better church than us” echoed through the congregation, leaving members inspired and reassured of the AME’s divine calling.

A Gift of Love from Allen Chapel AME Church, Maryland
In a moving demonstration of connectional care, Allen Chapel AME Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, extended financial support to Bethel in response to the Reverend’s appeal. Dr. Jonathan Weaver. Under the leadership of Rev. Kevin R. Brown, the church raised and transferred $8,698 USD to renovate the Bethel parsonage. The joyous check presentation during Sunday service was met with heartfelt gratitude and celebration.

Historic Visit of Retired Senior Bishop John R. Bryant.
On August 24, 2025, Bethel was again honored with the presence of Retired Senior Bishop John R. Bryant, accompanied by Bishop Kwame Lawson Adjei (CME), Dr. Thema Bryant, and family.
After warmly engaging the congregation, Bishop Bryant delivered a prophetic message that stirred the church. He later addressed the children’s Sunday school class with memorable words: “You are the leaders of today, responsible for the future.” His visit highlighted the historic roots of the AME Church in Ghana, which date back to 1935, and underscored the bond between the global Methodist family.
The World Methodist Council Peace Award
On August 12, 2025, Rev. Michael Enu represented the AME Church at the World Methodist Council Peace Award ceremony held at Wesley Towers, Accra, alongside Bishop Daniels. The award was presented to Dr. Fatou Bensouda, former Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, who challenged attendees with her words: “Every day that justice is delayed, peace is deferred.”

A Season of Grace and Growth
From global prayer to international visits, from ecumenical engagement to tangible support, Bethel AME Church experienced an extraordinary season of grace. The events honored the legacy of pioneers like Bishop Garnett Henning and showcased the living testimony of connectionalism in action.
As the congregation reflects on this historic chapter, one truth remains clear: God’s hand is upon Bethel AME Church, and through its ministry, the light of Christ continues to shine brightly in Ghana and beyond.
