Moving with Membership in the Connectional Lay Organization

By Dr. Dorothy Henderson, CLO 1st Vice President

Greetings in the Matchless and precious name above all others, Jesus the Christ!

As First Vice President of the Connectional Lay Organization, I am very excited about the partnership with The Christian Recorder.  It was my honor to share the Lay Organization membership Database compiled by the Lay First Vice Presidents with Dr. John Thomas.

We are also excited about our Achievements in Recruiting and Retaining Lay Members. Jesus stood in the midst, confirming our faithfulness.  God Holds the Keys to recruit effectively; within the Lay Organization one must first value the Lay Organization yourself and you must believe in the Lay Organization

Membership is the key element that defines a Professional Organization. The CLO constitution specifically assigns the 1st Vice President the functional Duty – To increase membership and help retain the current ones. Membership not only adds to the Connectional Lay Organizations’ ability to conduct an effective service to its constituencies.  It provides Leadership opportunities for young Adults and Members.

No matter what your trails are, or how big your mountains seem; the Lord is there to see you through; He will go to all extremes. So, if our cross seems hard to bear, and you know not what to do; The one who loves you most of all will be there to see you through. It is with sadness that we report the Death of Sister Florence Warren 1st Vice President of the Second Episcopal District and Sister Wanda Duckett, 1st Vice President of the 1st Episcopal District.

I would also like to recognize the stellar accomplishments of Judge Leroy Linen, Seventh Episcopal District Lay Organization First Vice President who served Charleston County, South Carolina for nearly 50 Years as an associate and chief judge. In recognition of his service – more than just the years served – The Charleston County Council voted to name the Magistrate’s Court Building in his honor.  The ceremony was held in December 2024.  Special recognition also goes to Mrs. Jean Richie, Second Episcopal District, First Vice President Mr. Milton Chambliss, Eighth Episcopal District, First Vice President, Mr. Herman Ellis, Twelfth Episcopal District, First Vice President for their contributions made during the Biennial.

I have a Dream, I have a Dream, I have the Faith, that one day all of God’s Children, Men and Women, Young Adults and Seasoned, will be able to join hands and recruit all who are eligible to join the Lay Organization, within  our Local Churches, I dream that we will share the Mission, the Objectives and good works of the Organized Lay Organization within every state, within every region and sing the words of our forth Fathers, I Love the Lord, he heard my cry and pitied every groan, long as I, live and trouble rise, I hasten to his throne, I love the Lord, I love the AME Church and I love the Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church!!  Thank God Almighty for the Organized Lay Organization!! I have a Dream that one day we have over 200,000 members.

Thank you for getting on Board the Henderson train
