National YPD Convention Held in the Dominican Republic: “Go Into The Deep”

By Rev. Tennamarie Jimenez, 11th Episcopal District

The Dominican Republic National Young People and Children’s Division (YPD) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church held its National YPD Convention in the vibrant city of Santiago, Dominican Republic, under the dynamic theme “Go Into the Deep,” drawn from Ezekiel 47:4–10, with a focus on verse 9 — “Wherever the river flows, everything will live.”
The Dominican Republic is part of the 16th Episcopal District, under the leadership of Bishop Jeffrey N. Leath and Supervisor Dr. Susan J. Leath.

The four-day gathering brought together hundreds of youths from across the island who came ready to worship, learn, and grow deeper in faith. From the moment registration began, the spirit of joy and expectation filled the Christian campgrounds where the convention was held.
The National Director of the YPD, Mrs. Clariza Paulino, and the National YPD President, Ms. Jeidy Jones Esteban, led the event with grace and excellence, supported by a dynamic team of officers and board members.

A Spirit-Filled Schedule
Each day began early with 6:00 a.m. prayer services led by the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS), followed by a full schedule of singing, Bible study, workshops, and worship services. Events began at 8:00 a.m. and continued late into the night, with youth still praising God after midnight during spontaneous “Praise After Parties.” Truly, they praised God morning, noon, night, and after midnight!
Participants enjoyed three delicious meals daily, featuring authentic Dominican cuisine prepared and served with care. The Sons of Allen faithfully served as servers and caretakers, ensuring everyone was well-fed and safe throughout the convention campground. Attendees were not only physically nourished but also spiritually enriched, as the convention opened with Holy Communion, setting up a sacred tone for the days that followed.

Youth Engagement and Worship
Bible classes were divided into two groups — ages 9–12 and 13–26 — providing age-appropriate study, fellowship, and reflection. Each day included powerful worship services, filled with dynamic preaching, anointed singing, praise dancing, and a youth talent showcase that displayed the many gifts within the YPD family.
Evenings were alive with energy and inspiration as guest preachers, praise dancers, and choirs led worship. Yet, there was still time for fun — youth enjoyed volleyball, basketball, and other games on the camp courts, reminding everyone that faith, fellowship, and fun belong together. Offerings were collected daily as an expression of Christian stewardship and gratitude.

Leaders and Greetings
The convention was beautifully led by National YPD President Jeidy Jones, who also served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Greetings and presentations were offered by presiding elders, pastors, consultants, and officers, including National YPD Director Clariza Paulino, whose leadership was marked by grace, humility, and deep spiritual insight.
Reports from officers and delegates reflected the vibrant growth and progress of YPD work throughout the Dominican Republic. The atmosphere was alive with worship and unity as youth and adults alike responded to the call to “go into the deep,” moving from surface-level faith to a deeper walk with God.

Special Guests and International Connection
Among the special guests was Alejandra Rain Jimenez, a youth delegate from the 11th Episcopal District, accompanied by her mother, the Reverend Dr. Teneramie C. Jimenez. Pastor Efrain Mateo of New Bethel II introduced Alejandra, who brought greetings on behalf of the 11th, and was received with rousing applause. Pastor Mataeo was a former YPD director in the Dominican Republic.
Alejandra and her mother are members of Greater Bethel AME Church in Miami, where they serve under the leadership of the dynamic duo consisting of Dr. Mark Crutcher, Pastor, and Dr. Julia Crutcher, First Lady. Alejandra was also in the Dominican Republic for sports-related commitments in Santo Domingo, exemplifying the global reach and impact of YPD youth.
The Presiding Elder, Vincent F. Mitchell, and Consultant, Magdalene Mitchell, were recognized for their steady guidance, wisdom, and support throughout the convention.

A Life-Changing Experience
On Sunday, July 27, the final day, participants cleaned their quarters, packed their belongings, and prepared to return home — hearts full and spirits renewed. This was more than a convention — it was a spiritual awakening.
The National YPD Convention in the Dominican Republic was truly life-changing, demonstrating that God is moving mightily among young people across the world. From worship to fellowship, study to service, every moment echoed the theme — “Go Into The Deep” — reminding all that where the Spirit flows, there is life.
