The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) in Liberia has approved a request from the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) to continue conducting online classes for the 2020 fall semester. In a communication dated August 21, 2020, and signed by the Commission’s Director General Dr. David S. Dahn, the decision was based on an assessment report from its (NCHE) Quality Assurance team which outlined how efficiently and impressively online classes were held by AMEU during the period of nationwide lock-down in Liberia. “Based upon the previous E-Learning assessment report on AMEU by the Quality Assurance of the NCHE and with lessons learned by the AMEU during the process of completing its previous semester online, there is no doubt that the AME University has the appropriate mechanism in place for E-Learning in Liberia,” Dahn stated.
The Commission cautioned AMEU to remain vigilant and maintain its quality standard as E-Learning is a new phenomenon in Liberia that requires constant monitoring. He encouraged other higher institutions of learning to carefully study what AMEU is doing and work to emulate its good example.
Receiving no objection on behalf of the University, its interim president, the Rev. Alvin E. Attah assured the Commission on Higher Education and the Ministry of Education of AMEU’s resolve to remain in pursuit of excellence at all times. “In all that we do, the interest of students remains the priority,” Attah added. He further commended the University’s Board of Trustees, under the guidance of Bishop E. Earl McCloud, Jr., for its continuous support and guidance as well as the faculty and staff for their commitment to teamwork.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the latest development, the administration has set September 3, 2020, as the date for the commencement of registration for all students seeking enrollment for the fall semester. Staff members would be required to sign a health bond as required in its Revised Health Policy.
