Antoné V, Chambers, a 29-year-old member of Union Chapel AME Church in Newark, New Jersey (First District), had the opportunity to interview Aisha Bowe. Aisha is one of the six all-female flight crew members who went to space on April 14, 2025.
It was only hours after returning to Earth that Antoné virtually spoke with Aisha Bowe, an aerospace engineer, former NASA rocket scientist, and entrepreneur.
The interview was brief, lasting just 5 minutes, as Antoné was mindful of Aisha needing to recuperate and prepare for a host of other interviews.
Considering this, Antoné asked only two questions, both of which were exuberantly answered by Ms. Bowe. The first question asked Ms. Bowe how space was in general. Bowe described it as unexpected, feeling as if she were a “balloon let loose.” The second question asked by Antoné led to an exclusive announcement from Aisha. Antoné asked Aisha what her favorite dish was that she would recommend for air packaging in space. Bowe reported that she actually brought her national dish, conch chowder, to space, which was freeze-dried and packaged like they do other foods in space. Aisha then revealed that the dish, which was dehydrated in Graycliff, Bahamas, was returned to Earth and marked “flown to space.” Aisha went on to explain that the dish will reside in Graycliff, on her native island. Mutual excitement between the interviewer and interviewee could be felt through the virtual screen.
Overjoyed with this accomplishment, her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Larry Jennings, broadcast the interview during the closing segment of the church’s Women’s Season culminating worship service. It was a very fitting moment as the church celebrated a plethora of phenomenal women of the past and the change-making women of today.
Antoné has a follow-up interview with Aisha Bowe scheduled for May 14, 2025. In this session, Aisha shared that she has created STEM activities/workshops and curricula. These will be implemented in school systems as she launches them across the United States and in various islands. Antoné’s final question asked Aisha for her advice to young girls or anyone reaching for the stars. Aisha’s closing remarks included: 1-to follow your dreams even if you ae the first to do it, 2-to understand that sometimes you cannot tell people your dreams but that you have to show them, 3-deposit your dreams in people that will hold you accountable and lastly, no is not right, not that you won’t ever.”
