A WMS Robing Ceremony of Supervisors Marks a Historic Landmark at the Pre-GDC Meeting

Rev. Gaborone P Lesito, TCR 19th District Field Representative

A spirit of reverence and celebration filled the air at the Radisson Blu Hotel Maputo as clergy, missionaries, church leaders, and friends gathered for a meaningful robing ceremony for Episcopal Supervisors Cordelia Mitchell and Joanne Cooper. This occasion highlighted true connectionalism, unity in worship, and the opening of doors for missionary mothers across the connection to follow suit.

The programme began with worship led by Sis. Nthabiseng Jantjie of the 18th District, whose heartfelt rendering of the Sotho hymn “Re a u boka Morena” set a deeply spiritual tone.
Sis. Beauty Hlope, Worship Leader of the 18th Episcopal District, led with an opening prayer.
Sis. Sis. Mosuwe, President of the 19th Episcopal District WMS, delivered a compelling address on being a missionary mother, reading from Genesis 37:1–3. Her address grounded the inductees in selfless service and in understanding the deeper meaning of robing.

Among the distinguished leaders present was Connectional President Dr. Deborah Taylor King, alongside 18th District WMS President Sis. Onti Moruakgomo. Gracing the occasion were Bishops Michael Leon Mitchell, Henry Allen Belin III, Jeffery B. Cooper Sr., and Gregory V. Eason, together with supervisors and representatives from multiple districts — reflecting the broad fellowship and connectional strength of the church.

In a solemn and symbolic act, Bishops Mitchell and Cooper offered prayers of consecration over the robes before the candidates were robed. This blessing underscored the spiritual significance of the garments — symbols of calling, accountability, and service — and marked a powerful moment of affirmation for those entering their roles.

Those gathered departed renewed in purpose, reminded that sacred service is both an honour and a calling entrusted to willing hearts.
