We Are the Church

We Are the Church

We Are the Church

By Thato Mosebi, Contributing Writer

In 1 Kings 8:15-19, we learn that David had the desire to build a temple for God. However, God chose David’s son, Solomon, to build it. First Kings 8:10-11 tells us that the priests could not get up from their knees because the presence of the Lord was in the temple.

The temple of God was the dwelling place of God’s presence. In the New Testament, we learn that Jesus is the head of the church. This is in Ephesians 4:15 as well as in Colossians.

This is why Jesus could say to Peter in Matthew 16:18, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against.” Jesus said that when asked in Matthew 16:15, “Who do you say that I am?” and Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

This tells me that the foundation of the new church, after the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, is Peter knowing that Christ is the son of the living God. We are the body of Christ. We are the church.

Christ died for the church. As the church, we are to pray without ceasing. We are to pray for the world and all its situations. We are to worship God for who He is and worship Him in and out of season. We are to fear and trust God. We are to be humble and live a life that represents Christ. We are the church.

Jesus is the head of the church. Let us look to Jesus in these trying times and remember that we are the church. The building may be closed but we are the church.

Worship God in your home and wherever you are. Pray to God continuously and pray for the world. Keep reading and sharing the Word of God. Don’t lose hope or despair. We are the church.
