The Gathering of Scouts for AAMES 2020 Camporee

We are excited that the AME Church has thousands of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts coming together in church basements, community centers, and family living rooms for another exciting year of scouting. Scouting is a well-researched and time-tested program administered by trained volunteer leaders. It serves youth ages 5- 18 and young adults up to the age of 21.

Programs are delivered with an eye on safety for our youth at all times. Both the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and Boy Scouts of America have been serving youth and families for over 100 years and the AME Church has been serving families and saving souls for over 200 years. These centenarian organizations have responded to the changing times to serve our youth. Both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have research professionals and scientists that study our youth behaviors and make recommendations to training professionals on the best way to deliver well-designed programs that are fun and educational for our youth. Due to this, the AME Church has adopted these two programs as one of its girl and boy youth programs.

If your church does not have a Girl Scout or Boy Scout program, it is missing out on the opportunity of providing the youth of your church the opportunity of experiencing one of the best youth-serving organizations in the country. Scouting offers fun, fellowship, training, networking, extraordinary experiences, and an opportunity to develop and show leadership skills. They even give our youth opportunities for career exploration.

The Association of AME Scouts (AAMES) is a ministry under the AME Church’s Department of Christian Education under the leadership of our Executive Director, the Rev. Garland Pierce. Every four years, AAMES host a Scout Camporee. We invite every AME Church Girl Scout and Boy Scout (ages 5–21) and parents to join us at Camp La-No-Che, a Central Florida Council Scout Reservation, June 28 -July 8, 2020. The camp is approximately one-hour north of Orlando, Florida.

If you are African Methodist and a scout and your unit is not sponsored by an AME Church, you and your unit are still invited to attend this AAMES 2020 Quadrennial Camporee. This Camporee invites you to come and enjoy scout games, advancements, new experiences, merit badges/advancements, certifications, awards, two off-site executions, special presenters from Disney and the Kennedy Center, fellowship, new friends, and fun!

For more information about the Camporee, go to the website at www.ameced.com and click on “ministry,” then “scouting,” and then “AAMES 2020 Camporee.” You may also contact Vivianne Frye-Perry Director for Girl Scouts ( emails: vfrye-perry@amescouts.org) or Clarence Crayton for Boy Scouts (email: ccrayton@amescouts.org ).
