From April 10-12, the Religion Communicators Council and the Associated Church Press met in a joint convention in Chicago, Illinois. The Christian Recorder participates in both organizations. Annually, both groups give awards for journalism and the Recorderparticipated favorably in both contests.

At the Religion Communicators Council Derose-Hinkhouse Awards Dinner, The Christian Recorderreceived two Awards of Excellence and Editor John Thomas, III received an Award of Merit for the December 2018 Editorial. Sister Elexis Wilson of DuPage AME Church in Lisle represented the Paper at the dinner.

At the Associated Church Press Awards Banquet, the Publication received the following honors: The Rev. Joi Orr, Honorable Mention, Short Theological Reflection; the Rev. Dr. Sidney Williams, Award of Merit, Short Personal Reflection; Dr. Ulysses Burley III, Award of Merit, Newspaper Column; and Best in Class, Honorable Mention, National/International Newspaper. The Rev. Morgan E. Dixon of DuPage AME Church in Lisle represented the paper at the ceremony.

Additionally, Editor Thomas was elected to serve a three-year term as an at-large member of the Associated Church Press Board. Congratulations to the honorees.
