Fisk Chapel Blessed by Community Support

Fisk Chapel AME Church was blessed this past weekend with great support from the Fair Haven community. A Facebook post was written by Fisk Chapel member, Melanie Woods, asking for any benevolent assistance in painting the exterior of the church structure as most of the small (but mighty) members are senior citizens and unable to provide more than donations and encouragement.

It was a true blessing on Saturday, September 12, to have many neighbors in the Fair Haven and Red Bank communities come over to help out, bringing their own tools, gardening equipment, and power washer to assist in scraping, painting, planting, hosing, and generally providing manpower, support, fellowship, and love.  Fisk Chapel provided hot coffee, juices, and donuts for breakfast and served a delicious lunch of homemade split-pea soup and submarine sandwiches. Fisk Chapel was so immensely blessed with the outpouring of support from friends in the neighborhood! It was truly a wonderful, joyous, spirit-filled, heart-bursting, and God-blessed day.

The following Saturday, September 19, a professional painter came out with his high-reaching ladder to paint the very top of the church that was left undone. He stayed all day until his dedicated work was magnificently complete, donating his time so benevolently. We salute and pray God’s blessings to Matt Bufano, also known as the current chief of the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Department.

The Rev. Thomas Johnson, the pastor of Fisk Chapel, and First Lady Jacquelyn Johnson wish to humbly thank—with the greatest appreciation—Dave Medrow, Joanne Stein, Cristina Santos, Chris and Marcy Brennar, Paul and Kathy Elderhorst, Maggie Murray, Matt and Rachel Gallagher, Sigourney Toll, Jenni Foster, Ashley Brittain, Rob Robinson, Hailey Hunt, Marcelline Harris, Stacy Harris, Jackie Severinsen, Gwen Henderson, Kevin and Yvonne Breckenridge, Rose Jackson, Arthur and Linda Watkins, Gerard Cureton, Adrienne Campbell, Louis Boyd, Richard and Rosetta Coleman. Fair Haven Councilmembers Susan Sorenson and Pat Drummond stopped by to offer encouragement.

It was a wonderful day of togetherness, camaraderie, fellowship, and community love in our small corner of the world. God is good, all the time!
