El Elyon: God Most High

El Elyon: God Most High

El Elyon: God Most High

By Sister Thato Mosebi

Genesis 14:18-20 says, “And King Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. He blessed him and said, ‘Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!’ And Abram gave him one-tenth of everything.” When Abram learned that Lot had been captured, Abram took his men to go find Lot.

Abram attacked, won, and returned with Lot. On his way back, the verses tell us that the King of Salem blessed Abram and he praised the God of Abram, El Elyon, God Most High.

The King of Salem knew that Abram did not conquer alone. He knew that Abram conquered because of the God he served, the Living God or the God Most High. He understood that the God of Abram is God Most High. He reigns where we can never imagine.

Daniel 3:26 says, “Nebuchadnezzar then approached the door of the furnace of blazing fire and said, ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!’ So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire.” The three Hebrew boys were thrown into the fire because they refused to bow down to any other god.

They knew the God Most High had the power to take them out of the fire unharmed. Hence, they were unshaken in their faith in God and their decision.

This verse calls them out of the fire. He not only calls them but also acknowledges El Elyon, the God Most High. He sees just how powerful God is and calls for the entire nation to follow the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

We go through different challenges in life. At times, we find ourselves in a corner with no way out. It is during these times that we must not give up. We must look up. Look up to God Most High and know that He is in control.

Remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways and God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts. God has gone before us and knows the outcome of everything. So, relax and trust God with your journey.
