An AME heads the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation

South Africa has nine provinces with Gauteng as the hub of economic activity. To hold office in the Gauteng Province, one must be eminent in the true sense of the word. The political head of the Province, Premier David Makhura has appointed Priscilla Ikgopoleng Masisi, a member of Nkosi Memorial AME Church in Rustenburg, as the head of the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation with effect from 1 November 2020.
According to the Gauteng News Flash, “Prior to the appointment, Masisi was the Chief Director for Active Nation at the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. Her responsibilities included providing strategic leadership for the development of support systems to increase the number of citizens who participate in sport and recreation activities.”
Masisi, born 49 years ago tells us that she was christened in the AME Church by Rev. Nkalambela and baptised in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was raised by her grandmother Catherine Hlongwane who went home to be with the Lord in 2004.
She started her primary school at Reuben Monareng Primary School, her middle school at Thabiso and High School at Sekete High School in Kanana. Later in the years, she acquired a BA in Human Resource Management from Fort Hare University, a BA Honours degree in Public Administration and Management from the University of Pretoria (UP) and a Management Development Programme from the University of South Africa (UNISA) School of Business Leadership.
Sister Masisi is a member of the Women’s Missionary Society at Nkosi Memorial under Rev. LS Moobi. She is saddened by the advent of COVID-19 that got her planned robing ceremony to be postponed. “She has been active in the WMS and committed in development. (She is) Motivational and prefer to work in the background. Does not want prominence.” says Rev. Moobi who held a special service for her to thank God for her appointment.
Her 24-year-old daughter, Khensani, is currently studying for her Masters degree in International Relations in Turkey.
