North Atlanta District Sponsors Mayoral Forum for Atlanta Mayor Candidates

On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Bishop Reginald T.Jackson, the presiding prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District of the AME Church held a Mayoral Forum at Flipper Temple AME Church. Eight of the top running candidates were in attendance and gave their viewpoints on various topics of interest to the citizens of the Atlanta area. Candidates in attendance were Keisha Lance Bottoms, Michael Sterling, Mary Norwood, Ceasar Mitchell, Cathy Woolard, Vincent Fort, John Eaves, and Peter Aman. Some of the topics discussed and sometimes debated were the Beltline Development and its impact on the westside of Atlanta, the airport and plans of expansion, racial profiling and should it be used by the police, economic development and how it can be more beneficial in areas where African-Americans live and work, uptown safety in high-density areas of nightlife and entertainment, and annexation and affordable housing.

The two moderators were Attorney Douglas Selby, general counsel for the AME Church and former State Representative Dorothea (Dee) Dawkins-Haigler of Lithonia, Georgia. Both are members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. We are grateful for the social consciousness of Bishop Reginald Jackson, who was instrumental in sponsoring this Forum to help enlighten those who are and will be directly impacted by this most important election.
