One of the most noteworthy ways women empower and encourage one another is through sharing our stories. In telling our stories, we learn about relationships and discover our collective challenges and successes. During the month of March, we will celebrate International Women’s History Month.

The Connectional Women In Ministry of the AME Church is proud to launch the “Her Story is My Story” Campaign. Jarena Lee is a “herstoric” figure for women in ministry. She was sanctioned to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and was the first black woman in the United States to publish an autobiography. Her story is one that calls us all to pause, reflect, and appreciate its importance in Women’s History, particularly in the AME Church. This is in addition to so many others who paved the way for many women today.

The Her Story is My Story (#HerstoryMyStory) Campaign will be an opportunity to celebrate the hidden yet valuable and encouraging stories of preachers, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, and friends that have never been told. This is the place to honor the lives of these women! In fact, women’s autobiographies are really the heart of women’s legacies.

During the month of March, we will highlight four women in the AME Church (lay and clergy) who have walked a unique path with lessons and gifts of strengths from which we can all take the time to notice and appreciate. Join us in paying tribute to the unique common experiences that shape the women we become. We will also share Bible studies, devotionals, and litanies from women in ministry from across the connectional church. We encourage you to prepare your story for future HerstoryMystory projects.
